ATTN: Kirsten Walli, Board Secretary
Dear Ms Walli,
We have recently received a letter dated Jan.13th, 2009 (and Dec. 23, 2008
attachments) notifying us of the proposed change in our electricity
supplier. We both strongly object to these unnecessary changes. For years
these Load Transfer arrangements have worked well for all parties involved.
Our present supplier, Milton Hydro supplies us with prompt and efficient
service, personalized and courteous staff at their office, as well as state
of the art metering technology.
Way back in 1994 I was privileged to have one of Milton Hydro's Time-Of-Use
meters. These were a forerunner of the newer term "Smart Meter". This
technology allowed us to use off-peak hydro at a ratio of 8:1 to peak hydro.
This saved us money and conserved electricity. In the winter wood pellets
were used to heat our house during peak hydro time periods. At the start of
off-peak times our electric furnace, heat pump, hot water heater, dishwasher
and clothes dryer were enabled to run. In the summer our air conditioner
cooled the house down through the night during off-peak times and was
disabled all day during peak hydro times. This has become a way of life for
us. Now with the proposed new supplier, Hydro One, we will lose the savings
and conservation element because they haven't completely rolled out their
Smart Meter program and they can't tell me when I would have one. The
Ministry of Energy has mandated that all homes are to have Smart Meters.
Now you're going to have ours taken away???
To make matters worse, we will be looking at an increase of 20% in our
electricity rates with a lower degree of service. We will be rolled in with
Hydro One's over 1 million customers. Any provincial electricity rate
increases will be on top of this non-productive 20% increase. We have
recently changed to an all electric home with a geo-thermal heat pump. Any
increase in electricity rates affects our energy costs 100%.
There is one ironic thing that we would like to point out. The 20 customers
mentioned by this proposal on Page 2 under section 3 who are being switched
over to Milton Hydro DO NOT live in Milton but are in Eramosa township. The
8 customers mentioned by this proposal on Page 3 under section 5 who are
being switched over to Hydro One DO live in Milton. Why is this part being
proposed? Hydro One should be selling it's pole line circuit that is
physically in Milton to Milton Hydro. Likewise Milton Hydro should be
selling it's pole line circuit that is in Eramosa township to Hydro One.
This makes logical sense to us.
Until Hydro One can supply the Milton Hydro customers affected by this
application with working Smart Meter technology AND similar electricity
rates AND comparable service; this application needs to be withdrawn and
canceled.
Sincerely,
Ralph & Vicky Landsborough
