RE: File Number EB-2009-0111
As residents of a building that is affected by the installation and implementation of Smart Meters, I would like to state my opposition to the OEB hearing process into this matter.
While my family and I strive to do our best for our environment we certainly do not feel that the spirit in which these Smart Meters were installed were to promote a greener environment. We are not aware of any study or testing that was conducted to determine what our unitÂ’s monthly consumption rate would be in order to determine an appropriate level of reduction in our monthly rent.
This is what our experience has been like so far:
Rent Reduction Amount: About $28.00 per month
Our Average Electricity Bill From Stratacon (5 months of billing): About $60.00 per invoice.
Based on these numbers alone, how was $28.00 deemed to be an appropriate sum to deduct from our monthly rental for a 2-bedroom apartment occupied by 2 adults and 2 children ages 3 and 1?
We find it very suspect that there is such a great difference in the reduction of rent and our actual billing and feel that the implementation of the Smart Meters is nothing more than a rent increase. We also do not have the power or the means to make any type of changes to our units to help make it more Energy Efficient. Our fridge alone, based on the Energuide label affixed inside the unit, consumes about half the cost of the monthly reduction in the rent. We are left with only about $14.00 per month to pay for the usage of our lights, television, stove, etc. How can a family of 4 possibly consume only $14 worth of electricity, not including fridge, in a 2-bedroom unit?
Based on how this has been implemented we oppose any type of hearing that would allow Smart Meters to be used in our unit.
Please send me any correspondence in regards to any future proceedings regarding the Smart Meters.
Regards,
Mego Jeranian
