EB-2009-0096

So Hydro One needs more money to supply the people of Ontario with electricity. This is troubling on so many levels. The numbers that are given in the application for rate change are also very disturbing. 9.5% and then 13.3% increase - 22.8% over the next two years - lets put that in perspective.

• The Landlord Tenant Board allows less than a 2% annual increase,

• the rate of inflation has just hit a 56 year low

• the price of natural gas and gasoline are down significantly over the past 12 months.

So why does Hydro One think that they need to hit Ontarians with a significant increase in rates? Did the 10% challenge go over too well? Is the number of employees on the Sunshine list (OPG and Hydro One employees making over $100000/year) going to increase? Does the CEO need another helicopter ride to his cottage or do Ontarians still owe on a sailboat sponsorship?

Hydro One is forcing Ontarians to pony up more money – see the debt retirement part of your bill. Maybe they could look in the mirror for some cost savings. The auto sector employees were forced to make concessions on their contract. Have your employees been asked to do the same?

So you need $152.9 million more to supply me power in 2010 and then an additional $266 million in 2011 just to make ends meet. What are your plans? How will I notice over $400 million more dollars at work? Will I be able to receive power better and more consistently?

My wife and I own our home and we also own a rental property where the hydro is included in the rent. I am limited to what I can increase the rent by the same government who can simply not allow this rate change to take place.

I look forward to hearing from you.
