Subject: Proposed rate hike.....

One of my co-workers wrote this and I totally agree with her:

I absolutely want to voice my opinion about the proposed rate hike. In our community of Greenstone the unemployment rate is over 50%, every second house is for sale; people cannot afford to live here and are moving to other locations. Why do you think all of our industries have closed in this area, the hydro costs drove them to shut their doors. Should Hydro One executives not consider taking a SMALL cut in the salaries in order to keep the rates where they are? Can these executives really justify they are worth $1.4 million or even close to a million for that matter, I think not!! The proposed hike would give us an increase of 22.8% over a two year period. We need a freeze on the rates....OR EVEN BETTER YET.....LETS SEE A REDUCTION IN THE RATES FOR A CHANGE. Wouldn't that be a novelty? On top of the outrageous hydro rates we currently pay, we have the most unreliable hydro in all of Ontario...check the stats for yourself. It is not unheard of for us to be without power for 5 plus hours when it goes down. Come on people give us a break. And what's with this 'Debt Retirement Charge' that we have been paying for years, if the executives could see fit to apply some of the huge profits against the debt that would give the consumer a small break.

Let's put a stop to any further increases, at least till this recession is over....and believe you me it is far from being over in the north, I don't know where some of the politicians are getting their information when the profess that the worst of the recession is over!!!

Another very frustrated northerner
