This is in response to Whitby Hydro's application to increase the rates they charge.

This application should be rejected given the level of service they provide and the policies that exist at Whitby Hydro.

This is an organization that has a policy of charging a late payment fee of 1.5% on overdue bills and that charges a two month late fee on overdue payments when the bill is for two months.

Therefore, the late payment penalty represents an astronomical implied interest rate on amounts that are paid mere days after the due date.

That is completely ridiculous and unjustifiable and there are no sound financial explanations for such a policy.

In addition, when they came to my house at their own behest to inspect my meter and electrical panel, their personnel didn’t remove their boots and made a muddy mess in my foyer and throughout my basement.

That was simply ignorant.

Perhaps rate increases at Whitby Hydro would be justified if there current policies in other areas made sense and they provided reasonable service.
